Cerebus the Aardvark

What can you say about Cerebus? He’s a mean-tempered, sword-wielding barbarian. He also happens to be an aardvark. Therein lies the rub.
Cerebus is one of several comics that takes a satirical jab at Conan the Barbarian. What sets Cerebus apart is the sheer hipness of it all. In Cerebus you’ll find fantasy heroines debating women’s rights, Groucho Marx stowing away in the hold of a pirate ship with a barrel of stand-up comics, and the pious priest, Roach, on a holy mission to convert the heathen. All the while, Cerebus storms and stews. He is a three-foot barbarian with a progressively worsening attitude. It’s no wonder Cerebus has become a cult classic.
Cerebus creator Dave Sim envisions this series as a 300-issue epic, broken into several major story cycles. At the time of this writing, he’s nearly there, an unprecedented accomplishment for a self-publisher.
