Alpha Flight
$2.69 – $24.99
Published by Marvel Comics between 1983 and 1994, Alpha Flight was Marvel’s first Canadian super-group.
Marvel’s first Canadian super-group, Alpha Flight, is based in Toronto, and features the exploits of Guardian, Sasquatch, Puck, Northstar, and many other innovative super-heroes. Another Canadian, Wolverine, makes frequent guest appearances in this title as well.
Alpha Flight is interesting reading not only for its action and fast plotting, but also for its willingness to address social issues that other comics shy away from. Within its pages have come discussions of everything from socialized medicine to gay rights. And in a bold move, Alpha Flight’s Northstar came “out of the closet” to become Marvel’s first openly gay super-hero in issue #106.
