Excalibur
$3.99 – $7.99
This X-Men “supergroup” was published by Marvel Comics from 1988 through 1998.
Drawn together by a common menace in the heart of England, the former X-Men Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, and Phoenix joined forces with Captain Britain, Meggan (a shapeshifter), Lockheed the Dragon, and a robotic thing called Widget to become Excalibur.
Making its home in a haunted lighthouse, the team has been called on to battle everything from evil wraiths to necromancers bent on destroying the world. The members also have been back and forth to Limbo/Inferno enough times to merit frequent-teleport discounts.
Excalibur is distinguished by its witty scripting and its whimsical bent. This is a super-hero group that can appeal to readers who are more interested in the storyline than in displays of carnage. Reminiscent of Doctor Who, it’s a great series for younger readers, but should be highly enjoyable for just about anyone.
